Finnish Water Forum was delighted to co-organize a webinar on Groundwater Monitoring together with the United Nations Global Service Center. Taking place on May 13th, the webinar was designed for UN field missions and their personnel working with water affairs.
Many UN missions rely on groundwater sources for their water supply, and daily needs may be substantial. Groundwater is scarcely renewable and extremely valuable. Monitoring aquifers is an essential step in sustainable use and protection.
After welcoming words by Mr. Westley Chun from the UNGSC, Ms. Marielle Labadens from the UNGSC spoke of the field missions’ water needs and practices. This was followed by an introduction to Groundwater Monitoring by Mr. Joonas Kahiluoto from the Finnish Environment Institute. The final presentation was on Remote Groundwater Monitoring Hardware and Software by Mr. Kirk Johnson and Mr. Kimmo Karell from Masinotek.
The webinar was warmly received by the attendees who amounted to a total of 43. Further steps of collaboration between FWF and UNGSC are in the works, and new webinars are being considered.
